Dope Australian products are where it’s at. When you go to the US and see the crazy amount of wicked vegan products on sale (without the absurd price markup they incur when they get to us) can be a little disheartening, so I was super stoked when I heard about Kinda Bacon.

A few years ago, if you told me you could have made bacon-y tasting chips out of coconut, I would have slapped you across the face and called you a liar. The guys at Kinda Bacon have truly nailed the smokey, salty nature of those crispy bacon bits you used to sprinkle on your salads and soups to give it that extra oomph. Plus they’re gluten free so you gleegan dudes can get stuck in as well.

I have made my own coconut bacon in the past and I must say, it’s pretty good but Kinda Bacon takes the crisp-factor and the smokiness to the next level that I don’t think I quite achieved at home. Plus you’ve got it there, ready to go, in a sealed up bag whenever you need it.

The only negative I can think of is that it’s a little on the pricey side but if you’re only sprinkling it on top of dishes and cupcakes this bag will last you quite a while. If you’re going to go (mock) H.A.M and demolish the packet as a snack (which is possible as it’s so delicious), you may want to start a little savings account to support your habit.

From now on, I’m going to be keeping a packet of Kinda Bacon in my pantry so that next time I need to take a dish to the next level of tastiness, I’m ready.

As a special treat for our Australian Like a Vegan readers, Kinda Bacon are offering a 15% discount when you buy through their online store! Just enter the codeword: vegan15 at the checkout. Gnarly!

Now that I have you salivating, you wanna win some of this stuff? Sure you do! I have two packets of Kinda Bacon to give away to two lucky, Australian cool dudes. All you need to do is comment on this post (click on the little speech bubble near the title) with how you’re going to use your Kinda Bacon.

I’ll draw the winner next Friday (07/03/2014). This giveaway is for Australian Residents only.

One of my favourite pastimes is cooking and baking for my non-vegan friends, family and colleagues. It’s such a pleasure when they are generally shocked that something without a side of meat or covered in cheese could actually taste good. I have that one friend though, who finishes a meal and is generally impressed but will always add, “You know what would make this even better? Bacon.” Every time. Without fail.

So here’s what I’m going to do with Kinda Bacon.. I’m going to knock his socks off!

Maybe I’ll make him scrambled tofu with sundried tomatoes and bacon bits for brekkie. Or perhaps a light lunch of Caesar salad or a BLT sanga. If it’s dinner, perhaps some cous cous and bacon stuffed field mushrooms or a tofurky roast dinner with a big roast potato on the side stuffed with bacon chips, vegan sour cream and cheezly.

The possibilities are endless. I can’t wait!

I would love to try using some of this stuff in my big vegan breakfast I make on a Sunday morning. My boyfriend recently became vegetarian and says the thing he misses most is bacon! To have this amazing product in with the scrambled tofu, vegie sausages, avocado and spinach would be a dream come true to him I think haha 🙂 and also let me show him how amazing being a vegan can be, you don’t need to miss out in anything!

What an incredible product.
I love this blog. Always so informative and lovey.
Thanks! xx

What a delicious giveaway! here’s 3 ideas for using Kinda Bacon:

-Potato pancakes with Kinda Bacon inside (the kind of potato pancake where you just blend some potatoes with salt & herbs & pour the batter into a frying pan). maybe also with a cashew cheese sauce?
-sprouted lentil and quinoa salad with Kinda Bacon bits, fresh herbs and apple cider vinegar dressing
