Kester Black Nail Polish

Price: From $20.00AUD

Where to Buy: www.kesterblack.com

Update: As at 30th of July 2019, Kester Black can no longer claim they are palm oil free. According to their manufacturer, every nail polish in the world is made with an ingredient that contains a palm oil derivative and they are investigating whether or not their nail polishes can be made without it.

You guys know as well as I do that a good nail polish can be hard to find. You find a colour you like but it’s not vegan. You find a vegan brand but the colours are sucky. If you’re feeling this pain as much as I am, you’re going to bloody love Kester Black!

Not only are their products vegan but they’re Five Free. What does that mean? It means that these little polishes are  free from Toluene, DBP,  Camphor,  Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin; a bunch of nasty stuff that you don’t want to be putting on your body.

Kester Black create a world of colour with their range; pretty pastels, bold brights and mind melting metallic options to suit every taste and outfit. Plus they have some great nail basics like cuticle oil, nail art supplies, top coats, base coats and of course nail polish remover.

Something I’ve noticed with my nails is that when I wear a pale colour, my nails feel weak and brittle. This doesn’t seem to be the case with Kester Black. I’ve been rocking a pastel shade for a week now and my nails feel as strong as they do when I’m wearing a darker polish. Bonus!

My absolute favourite thing about Kester Black polish is the fanned brush. It makes application so freaking easy that a tiny little baby could do it (maybe not but you get the idea). Plus even after several days of wear, my polish hasn’t chipped and looks just as good as the day they were painted.

One of my favourite colours is Gold Digger from the Trophy Wife collaboration last year and that’s music to my ears because Kester Black and Trophy Wife are teaming up again with two new colours for Summer 2014 plus the opening of the Trophy Wife Hair & Nail Salon on August 7th from 6pm-9pm, where attendees will be able to get their hands (and nails) on the new colours before they launch next week. KB+TW4Eva!

Now that I’ve rambled on about how much I adore these polishes, it would be unfair of me not to give some away, right? As part of Like a Vegan’s 4th Birthday ExtraVeganza I have 3 shades to giveaway: Nebula, Silverbirch and Peach Melba. Not only will you score the Kester Black nail polish but you’ll receive a box of vegan goodies worth over $200. All you have to do is comment on this post with what your ultimate nail colour is and why. Don’t forget to check out @likeavegan on Instagram for another chance to win!

This competition is open to Australian residents only and winners will be drawn on September 5th, 2014.

I love KB’s colours but I haven’t had a chance to try them yet. Nebula is definitely my favourite, although the other pastel colours are beautiful, it’s so nice to see a vegan-friendly company with such an excellent range.

I’m pretty much a tom boy, but with one very feminine trait. I freaking love sparkly nails. The more glitter the better in my opinion. I’ve been lucky enough to nab some Kester Black polishes of late but next on my wishlist is Supernova, that stuff looks bitchin’.

I love grey nail polish because it can be worn day and night looking subtle but not boring and it goes well with professional attire for a funky edge!

I’d love the perfect shade of pale pink that in the right light turns a sort of metallic gold. I think that shade is gorgeous and just seems to scream out class and go with everything.

great review! I bought some vegan nail polishes from another company some time ago and have been disappointed to see some of the darker colours really wear off by the next day. I’m torn with my perfect shades, on one hand a really luscious deep red but I also love corals in spring and summer.

Baby pink! The one in the picture looks ideal! – Cause pink is the best duh.
Great review CJ. I’m super super happy to hear they don’t chip! And Five Free – So pumped about that!
Thanks for always finding and road testing the best vegan stuff!

I was seriously just wondering the other day if there was a good Australian & vegan nail polish store, so this has come at a perfect time!

And best of all, it looks like they sell my ultimate shade of nail polish – their Laguna polish is exactly the colour I’ve always wanted

I’ve not been happy with the quality of vegan nail polishes so far so would love to try Kester Black. My favourite colour is a faded or dusty rose shade, something that matches my skin colour, flatters my hands and has some depth of colour.

Thanks to my daughter I’ve recently rediscovered my love of nail polish and my favourite colour is a blue-silver swirl that I paint on myself. It looks mystical and new-agey and I just love it!

My favourite is a deep crimson to match my lips – yes, I’m showy and not afraid to admit it!

Reminds me of some ‘nail polish’ quotes:
“Women are only helpless when their nail polish is wet”. And how about “Women who have nail polish have too much time on their hands”. Or alternatively; “All my friends are over there having an intense debates and I am over here….oooh look at my new nail polish”.

I’d like to try 4eva or Paradise punch to brighten up winter nights and Cerulean for the beach days coming up at the end of the year. I really want to find a good vegan nail polish to to convince my beauty therapist that vegan nail Polish does perform. It’s been slim pickings so far!

I’m a plain & simple girl all the way – neutral colours like a light beige or a light grey if I’m feeling snazzy 🙂

My ultimate shade is that perfect, delicate shade of pink that gives nails a natural tint and doesn’t look too young on older hands.

Light as can be….Good nail polish takes years off your hands…bad trashy nail polish adds years to your entire body.

I love a shade of nude….perfect for work, perfect for during the day, perfect for any outfit at night. Kester Black ‘Blush’ is perfect for this and provides the right amount of coverage to hide my scraggly little nails.

I have been known to also pain a ‘V’ in black on my pinky nail just in case the world doesnt know I am vegan. The world should know I am vegan. 🙂

As a vegan girl I’d love to give the Kester Black Range a whirl. The Silverbirch appeals to my youthful and playful personality.

A nice deep gold colour is my ideal nail colour… it adds sparkle to any ordinary day or glitz to a decadent night out!

Thanks for the chance, what an awesome prize!

This is a difficult question. I like to change my nail colour regularly, but I usually get most excited about putting a fresh coat of red nail polish on. Red nail polish goes with everything. So my ultimate nail colour would be a fantastic red apple nail polish. Not dull or orangey but fresh, crisp and enticing; almost naughty like Snow White’s poisoned apple.

I love baby pink/peach colours like KB’s Peach Melba. I like that these colours are just so soft and dainty and can match just about anything. Perfect for spring too!

I would say either a peach or a black. The peach because it’s both subtle and flattering, and the black because it goes with my very neutral wardrobe. I haven’t worn nail polish since going vegan, as I haven’t been able to find a good brand. Really looking forward to trying this one in the future!

Creamy pink, because compared to my skin tone it’s somehow both subtle and striking. I love nail polish in pastel/”baby” colours because, even though those colours are generally seen as straightlaced, as polish they look kinda weird compared to darker colours (at least in my opinion).

I might be too late to try for a win! But I can’t have a favourite colour since my hair colour’s always changing, from hot pink to turquoise and every colour in between so my favourite nail polish colour would need to match my hair colour at that time! 😉
