Makes 9 burger patties
Everybody loves a boiger! The issue is that most of the vegan-friendly patties are full of vegetables, lentils and beans which leaves us with our meaty craving unsatisfied. Veggie patties definitely have their place, heck I love em, but sometimes you just want that classic beefy taste that a veggie burger cannot provide.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons of egg replacer
- 4 tablespoons of water
- 2 cups of textured vegetable protein (TVP)
- 2 beef style stock cubes
- 2 cups of boiling water
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon of mixed dried herbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/3 cup tomato sauce
- 1 1/3 cup bread crumbs
Method
- Combine egg replacer and water in a small bowl and mix well. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, crumble the stock cubes over the TVP and add boiling water. Mix well and set aside for about 10 minutes.
- Once the TVP has absorbed the water, add the egg replacer and mix well.
- Add the remaining ingredients and combine well.
- Roll into 9 large balls and place on a large plate. It works best if you can refrigerate these for a little while before cooking.
- Place the balls in a large frypan, and press down gently. Cook until brown on both sides.
- Serve on a bun with your favourite salads and condiments with a side of vegan fries.
Looks good. I’ve been after a recipe like this since I tried Lord Of The Fries in Melbourne. Their burgers are vego (they do use cheese) but you’d swear you were eating a beef burger.
Great for people like me, who are veg for ethical and environmental reasons.
There’s also this great Thai place in Newtown in Sydney that does a really convincing vego “chicken” curry, but that’s another story.
Thanks for the recipe!
These burgers are just amazing, i make them once a week! It’s becoming a family tradition! The flavour is great and they are great as leftovers too
We have them with the tofutti cheese slices, beetroot, pineapple and heaps of pickles! Yumm!
Thanks Vanessa
So glad you and your family love them!
Plus without the no-egg it’s a great mince recipe, i fry it up and use it as mince or flavour it mexican for mexican food!
Plus chia seeds work perfectly instead of no-egg!
Great suggestion, Vanessa!
