The Nourishing Quarter
Address: 315 Cleveland Street, Redfern, NSW 2016
Website: www.bnourished.com.au
The Nourishing Quarter is a cute little eatery comfortably nestled within the hustle and bustle of Redfern’s busy Cleveland Street.
The decor is eclectic; a mish mash of vintage furniture, quirky teaspoons and touches of Queen Elizabeth throughout. The dining room itself is quite small and there is a courtyard however I would strongly recommend making a reservation to avoid disappointment (people were getting turned away and it was only a Wednesday!)
When it comes to the staff, they are friendly, efficient and accommodating. Upon making a booking I was asked if anyone had special dietary requirements or allergies (as not all food is vegan) and this was followed up by a lovely conversation with the owner in person about veganism/vegetarianism and The Nourishing Quarter’s philosophy.
Let’s move onto the most important part…
What I Ate
The Entrée
Sacré-Frictura (Quinoa and Corn Fritters)- $12.50
These little crispy babies are packed full of sweet potato, corn, onion and shallots in a quinoa and amaranth batter. Each bite is complemented by a tamarind dipping sauce (the standard sauce isn’t vegan) and makes the perfect starter to share with friends.
The Main
Spicy Lemongrass in Textured Tofu with Seasoned Vegetables – $16.50
This dish was delightful. Fluffy, golden pillows of tofu cooked with lemongrass, served with brown rice and quinoa. A seriously wholesome meal and if you have a serious appetite there is a larger size available.
The Dessert
Raspberry Chocolate Cheesecake – $10.50
Now, because the previous courses were so filling, I had to share the dessert. While I’m not the biggest dessert lover, this cheesecake was beautifully tasty and well presented however I do prefer my own. In saying that though, it was the perfect ending to a delicious meal.
The Verdict
8/10
Eating at The Nourishing Quarter is a wonderfully pleasant dining experience. I left feeling fully satisfied yet didn’t get that overly stuffed feeling you sometimes get after dining out. The food is reasonably priced, the portion sizes are generous and the staff are lovely. If you’re in the area, I strongly suggest visiting this little gem!
