Nothing says Christmas like food and craft and what better way to combine the two than by making a gingerbread house! The guys at Gingerbread Folk have just released a Vegan Gingerbread House Kit and sent one to me to try PLUS we’re giving one reader of Like a Vegan to win one of their own (see more about that below).
4 walls, roof pieces and a chimney are all included in the kit plus instructions, baseboard, icing bag and vegan royal icing mix.
The royal icing is incredibly easy to mix however I did need to add a little more water than the instructions suggested, I would recommend adding it very slowly until you get the desired consistency rather than pouring a whole bunch of water in at once. Constructing the house itself was also quite simple and the instructions were very straightforward and easy to follow.
The funnest part of this process is of course the decorating and while I think I did an okay job, with a lot more patience and a steadier hand I’m sure I could have done a lot better. I chose to cover my roof with “snow” before adding edible glitter, licorice candy icicles, candy canes on the walls and a little cachous doorknob on the front door.
This is such a fun activity to do with kids but the Vegan Gingerbread House Kit also makes an awesome gift over the festive season when attending Christmas parties and other events. You could even pair it with a gift of some awesome vegan-friendly sweets to assist in the decorating process. The gingerbread and icing both have the great taste of Gingerbread Folk’s Gingerbread Men which means you will be tempted to smash down your construction very soon after it has been completed!
